Get Your Gluten ~ What?!?!

Why are so many people ranting about being Gluten Free?

Let’s get educated…

First, Gluten, by definition is a protein found in grains, including wheat. It helps dough rise, giving it that doughy texture. Think of a hot steamy buttery giant pretzel… mmmmm, lots of gluten, thick and fluffy yum.

However, not the best for the body. Come on, you can admit it, it’s ok. That stuff that makes bread so fluffy and yummy also easily turns to a glue-like substance in your body. Which doesn’t have to be a bad thing, it’s just a thing. Most bodies however, aren’t going to like too much gluey substance in their precious intestines, especially someone who already has digestive issues.

If our intestines are up to 20 feet long, and you want to keep things ‘flowing’ – gluey substance is NOT going to help flow. You don’t have to be a major scientist to realize the sense of this.

Let’s address though how some people ARE able to tolerate more gluten in their diet. First, if you have a SOLID ROCKIN’ immune system, you have a much better ability to move a slightly sticky substance down your tubes. You’re very fortunate, congratulations. Be careful not to abuse this privilege. You can get your gluten in moderation. Moderation with most things is always key.

Another way to tolerate Gluten more easy, is to know the source from which the gluten comes. A body can be wheat intolerant, but be ok with gluten, or vice versa. KNOW your allergies. If you are not sure, take the time to invest in a blood test. It’s a lot more fun than the skin prick test, I can guarantee you that!! Unless you have some twisted curiosity to see what your skin does with each prick (yes, I have some friends who would chose this, you know who you are!).

What is important, from my bias is that your grains be organic and non-gmo. Those two things alone improve people’s ability to strengthen the immune system.

If you’re a person suffering from any immune challenge, gluten is NOT for you. Please accept this. Healthy can be easy when we educate ourself. With awareness, it’s easy to say no thank you to the hot steamy pretzel, because we know the stuck painful intestines aren’t worth it. It’s easy to feel our body thanking us for listening and honoring what’s going to help us have MORE energy, and feel even BETTER.

Really, it’s that simple. Love for the body. Love for feeling good.

Becoming aware and living healthy.

Don’t focus on all the things you can’t have. Focus on what you can. Then, take all of those and have fun getting creative with new recipes ! (I have become obsessed!) Make it a gluten free game .
